I had the opportunity to meet Firass Zahabi at my second mma fight in 2002 when he invited me to join his team. At the time he was assisting head Brazilian Jiu-jitsu purple belt under renzo Gracie Angelo Exharakos in teaching the rudiments of the sport and led the few fighters (which the author of these lines) that were at the time fighting for the late promotion UCC / TKO between others. You could see there David Loiseau, Yves Jabouin, Donald Ouimet, Stephane Vigneault, Ivan Menjivar and later a young man with a promising future in the GSP that is known.
The years passed and Firass Zahabi becomes the head coach and owner of Tri-Star. Firass has developed relationships of trust with its veterans and narrow making it one of the most respected coaches in MMA today. Today I would like to give you a list of active combatants successful thanks to the wonderful advice of Firass Zahabi.
1 - Georges St. Pierre (22-2): He does not need presentations. Welterweight champion of the UFC, pound for pound best fighter on the planet (with Anderson Silva). GSP is the Wayne Gretzky of MMA and continues to impress everyone with every performance he offers. I will always remember the words of his coach at the time, Angelo Exharakos who told me with an unusual enthusiasm after Georges had dominated Pete Spratt : This kid is gonna go far! He was right.
2 - David Loiseau (20-10): Made from the same period, Loiseau, Former UCC champion, our first Quebecer to go to the UFC was rain or shine in the UFC, for many years, earning even a chance for the world title against Rich Franklin at the time seemed unbeatable at 185 pounds. Loiseau is remembered for its spectacular kicking, elbowing its devastating and extraordinary charisma. David is reco.vering from an injury and should fight the next few months and put his championship at stake Taichi Palace.
3 - Ivan Menjivar (23-8): Ivan is at the Tri-star since his debut in professional fights, a gifted both in stand-up, wrestling or Jiu-Jitsu, Menjivar fought throughout North America and Japan and faced some of the most fearsome fighters in the world. Ivan retired from competition for almost four years after a nasty knee injury but came back strong in a new division for him (135 lbs). Ivan is under contract with the UFC and holds a 2-1 record in the bantamweight division
4 - John Makdessi (9-0): Excellent kickboxer and student Firass Zahabi since its beginnings as an amateur. Former champion kickboxer who won gold at USKBA competitions. Makdessi is known for his spectacular style, The Bull has an incredible defense against takedowns,what makes it even more difficult for his opponents when it comes to exchange standing. Undefeated in MMA, it will be his third fight with the UFC at UFC 140 event in Toronto where he will face veteran Dennis Hallman.
5 - Yves Jabouin (16-7). Affectionately known as Tiger by his peers, Jabouin is a little mini David Loiseau with his spectacular style. Devastating kicks, flying knees, spinning back fists are an integral part of its arsenal and can always be expected in combat caper when he enters the octagon. Jabouin began his career at 155 pounds and now fights at 135 pounds. He will make his next fight at UFC 140 against Walel Watson (9-2).
6 - Rory MacDonald (12-1). The young prodigy from Western Canada moved to Montreal for some time to perfect his art. Professional since the age of 16, this young veteran has lost only once and that's against Carlos Condit as he misses the decision win by seven small seconds if he had survived the attacks of Condit at the very end of the third round.
7 - Denis Kang (34-14-2) Canadian, France native and half-Korean, Kang is based in Montreal for several years. UFC veteran, he fought almost on all continents including America, Europe and Asia. Kang fights next in Korea in early December.

(40-4), Kenny Florian (14-6), Sean Pierson (11-5), Mark Bocek (9-4), Ryan Ford (16-4) and many others.Not to mention the stars in the making that will no doubt jump at the UFC one day or another (or already are), between others are Nordine Taleb (6-1), Mike Ricci (6 - 2), Derek Gauthier (7-3), Alex Garcia (7-1), Francis Carmont (17-7)and Joey Gambino (8-0) .
